Avocado and chocolate is an old pastry trick: the avocado disappears completely and leaves only texture, somewhere between a smoothie and a mousse.
Raw cacao is more bitter and more chocolatey than regular cocoa, which is exactly what this one needs.
This is number 20 of our top 20 high protein, low carb smoothies.
method
Pour the almond milk into the blender, add the avocado, cacao and protein powder.
Add the ice. Blend on high for 30 to 45 seconds, until completely smooth. Give it the full time; the payoff is the texture.
Eat it with a spoon if it comes out mousse-thick. That is not a mistake. Taste and adjust: a few more ice cubes for thicker, a splash more liquid for thinner. Drink cold.
chef's tips
- Regular unsweetened cocoa works if you have no raw cacao; the flavor is just a little flatter.
- Too thick is fixable with a splash of almond milk; too thin is fixable with five more minutes in the freezer.
- Liquid first, soft ingredients next, ice last. It blends faster and nothing sticks under the blades.
